FOOT AND ANKLE PAIN OVERVIEW:

The foot and ankle is a complex joint, comprising of 33 joints and 26 bones. There are therefore many types of foot and ankle pain and it is important to correctly identify which you are suffering from in order to get your results.

Causes of foot and ankle pain: ligament sprains, muscle strains and tears, gout, policemans’ heel, plantar fasciitis, tarsal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, Morton’s Neuroma, achilles tendonitis, hammer toe, and more.

WHAT CAUSES FOOT AND ANKLE PAIN?

Here are some common causes of foot and ankle pain:

  • Sporting injuries

  • Poor spinal alignment

  • Trauma

  • Incorrect footwear (high heels)

  • Poor knee/hip alignment

  • Poor running technique

  • Repetitive strain injuries

  • Fractures

Once other diseases and conditions have been ruled out, the most common type of foot/ankle pain we see in our practice is mechanical in nature. Meaning pain and dysfunction caused from poor spinal or other bone alignment, and muscular imbalances.

Poor alignment, especially in the low back, pelvis and knee can contribute to foot and ankle pain. If you have poor alignment/posture, it places significantly more pressure on the joints, muscles and ligaments of your foot and ankle.
